Winners of the Schools Energy and Water Reduction Competition announced
The Heroes of the UAE Energy and Water Reduction Competition for the primary, intermediate, and high schools concluded on May 30, 2010, with the jury deciding on the winners from each category – Private schools, Government boys, and Government girls.
Entries from 13 Private schools and 22 Government schools were examined by the three-member jury for their total percentage per capita reduction in Energy & Water consumption in three months (February – April 2010) in comparison with their consumption in February – April 2009, along with the activities they had initiated within their schools and the community beyond.
Some of the winning schools managed to save energy and water consumption up to 60 per cent with innovative yet simple techniques designed and implemented by the students themselves. Additionally, schools also encouraged members outside their community to follow their sustainable practices.
The selected winners are:
Private schools –
Winner - Al Shoala Private School, Sharjah
First Runner-up – Raffles International School, Dubai
Second Runner-up – Our Own English High School, Sharjah,
Government girls schools-
Winner – Al Zawhra Intermediate School, Ajman
First Runner-up – Udhoun Primary School, Ras Al Khaimah
Second Runner-up – Sheikha bin Saeed Primary School, Ajman
Government boys schools –
Winner – Ibn Al Haitham Intermediate School, Ajman
First Runner-up – Al Halaa Primary School, Fujairah
Second Runner-up - Rams High School, Ras Al Khaimah
